ABSTRACT

The game events of "Cyberpunk 2077" take place in Night City. The city is the largest and most populated city in California with 6 million people and has also been voted the worst city to live in. Night City is probably the worst city because of the violence and poverty that prevail in many parts. In addition, in a highly futuristic city, high levels of noise, night light and air pollution can lead to overstimulation. Furthermore, it is not unlikely that the residents have to struggle with social isolation due to the large number of people.

All of these conditions lead to high levels of stress and a resulting increased susceptibility to mental disorders. Depending on V's life path, it may be that V can access different resources that protect him from a mental disorder or that he is not exposed to certain conditions that increase the risk of a mental disorder. As a Nomad, V is initially not exposed to the increased population density but has to struggle with poverty. As a Corpo, V is more likely to have access to financial resources and has less to contend with existential fears. As a Street Kid, V is exposed to all harmful conditions. Depending on the life path, V has different levels of resilience (resistance to mental illness). As a Nomad and Corpo, his resilience would be higher than that of the Street Kid. In this context, many other factors could be included and the experience and behavior (e.g. dialogue options) of V in Night City could vary depending on the life path.

The following quest focuses on experiencing cyberpsychosis, the disease someone is subject to when one gives up too much of one's humanity by replacing body parts with cyberware. According to the Cyberpunk Tabletop Game, too much cyberware in the body leads to a deterioration in the mental state and ultimately culminates in a violent psychosis, which is characterized by murderous intentions. We often see this disease in members of the Maelstrom Gang, some of whom kill children just for fun. But what about V? With too much cyberware in his body, does V just go crazy like the Maelstrom gang members and can no longer control his lust for murder? No. V is different. He is in control of his fate.
